The Fifth Mountain by Paulo Coelho
4.0
This book came in my life by chance just when I needed it. Honestly I was sceptical in the beginning and found it to be a bit dry, but as the story progressed it became more humane and relatable. I was really touched by it in the end and it deeply resonated with my own struggles and doubts. I also found some beautiful quotes so I think I will re-read it sometime in the future.
Unlike the Alchemist which was more subtle in it's religious allegories, this book is deeply biblically coded and I don't think it would be suitable for everyone, at least as I understood it. Most of the story is about finding our purpose and rebuilding our life after going through a hard experience, but also about our relationship with God and seeing life's wrongdoings in a different way. I personally liked it, but I see how it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea.
All in all I'm glad I gave it a chance after being completely disappointed with The Witch of Portobello. Every character still feels like the same person but it doesn't come of as preachy and pretentious as in Witch of Portobello and this time I appreciated the message it delivered!
