I read this a long time ago, and tween me would probably have bumped the rating up a star. Reading it now, I still really enjoyed the humour. There's a lot of the funny one-liner variety, and some nice comebacks. Beatrice biting the toe-ring off her stepmother's foot (while she was awake!) was an image that managed to stay with me all these years, even if the name did not, which says something.
The message is a classic, and never a bad thing for someone to hear.
All in all, a fun one time read, but probably pitched a bit more for someone 9-14ish.
