The Hunter's Gambit by Ciel Pierlot

adventurous dark tense medium-paced

I enjoyed the book, but didn't love it.
However I think the entire novel is an interesting set up for a sequel. I would like to read about our main character in the next part of her journey.
What frustrated me in this story was the typical human weaknesses that are portrayed when fighting supernatural beings. Of course it makes sense that a human is physically weaker than vampire- but it makes for an extremely depressing story. I admire Kazan for all she does, but it's also frustrating to see her fail over and over again.
And lastly I was surprised by the romantic scenes. I was actually a little put off by it initially, which I did not expect. I came around to / changed my mind - but I won't say more for the sake of no spoilers ;)
