This series has taken me by surprise in the best way possible. It is literally a banger after a banger - I can't tell you which book I like best and I get the strong urge to re-read the whole thing now that I already know some things. And yes, I have not even finished the series.
This has brought me a predicament concerning the rating of the books. There is no book that has stood out (there all good in their own way), so I feel like I can't rate any book more than the other, but then I also feel like 4 stars is not enough. (I take this book rating business very serious.)
In this book, "the spy" is finally closer to this revenge than ever. He has waited year in the shadows, masking behind a different identity. His target: the unsuspecting daughter of the man who ruined his life. Nix is oblivious to this connection and finds herself drawn to "the spy". The lines between deception and desire blur and soon "the spy" has to face a hard decision: love or vengeance?
I am intentionally not using the fake nor the real name of "the spy" because we're would be the fun in that. Go read the series, take your guess and don't be tempted by the spoiler. I had a strong feeling about who "the spy" is, but I also thought it was too obvious.
... but I was indeed right. I feel like "Ares" was very random and the comments towards him made by the author were quite mysterious sometimes so I guess it makes sense. Still obvious. My second guess would have been Hedeon but he has different problems.
At first I was quite annoyed by the flashbacks of Nix and Rafe's (aka Ares) parents which always happen when the present is much more interesting. But they make actually a lot of sense once you (or stupid me) learn who is who. Mafia relations and family trees are my nemesis.

Hell yes, did I enjoy the plot and absolute chaos at the end. Couldn't put the book away. I feel like the author wanted to end the series here because their are little epilogue for all of the four couples which have made me very happy, as I am officially very attached to the characters. Glad I get to read one more book.

(11.01.2025) I have officially finished the whole series and since book three, I am in awe of the constant bangers theis series entails. I feel like 4,0 stars isn't enough but I also can't really choose between any of the first four books (send help). So I am changing the rating to 4,5 to match my hype.
