Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell

I really enjoyed this book!! Wished I’d read it in the fall outside while eating some pumpkin bars or something haha, but that’s not the books fault! Plus regardless of it being the height of summer and read in my room, it still transported me to that feeling of fall in the Midwest. The smell of the soil and dirt, the falling leaves, those cooler toned sunsets, the spooky but fun vibe, and crisp air. And the fooooooddd!!!! It was so beautiful to read from!!

The story itself was fun and light hearted which I expected but there were small moments that would hit just a bit deeper. The feeling of a bittersweet ending, of fate versus choice, of carpé diem and hyped up ideas of a person! I wasn’t expecting that, and loved it so much! I feel like this story is going to only get better as it ages in my mind.

Also! There were queer characters!! I had no expectations that there would be, and *sigh* (hehe!) it was a lovely surprise! Also I only thought this was mostly about two friends and the shift there was also a very sweet change of pace too that at first I wasn’t sure about but then was fully on board.

Overall, I loved this book! And definitely want to own it one day to read it each fall amongst the autumn leaves...
