I have several problems with LOVE OF THE EGOIST. The first one is, that it doesn't do what it says on the tin. I expected a dubcon BDSM romance but that's not what this is. It's not even a romance. I have loved and enjoyed books like C.S. Pacat's CAPTIVE PRINCE and Alksandr Voinov's SOLDIERS but unfortunately this book is nothing like those. No slow-burn romance what so ever. There is some chemistry between the characters but it's superficial.
Another problem is the boredom I experienced reading this story. Romances rarely bore me, but this one wasn't holding my attention. There are fight scenes that are basically pages and pages of blow-by-blow, which just isn't engaging to read.
The ending is gutsy and I wanted to applaud the author for that. But then I read what the sequel is about ... yeah ... nope.
Lastly, the writing has issues. I can look past some strange word choices, but many of the descriptions felt off and a lot of things just pulled me out of the story. The characters weren't fleshed out enough and I was never really engaged.
