This book was frustrating. The main character is a bit whiny. The ending took away a potentially interesting character inner-conflict with no satisfying resolution other than “yep! All set!!”. The romantic plot was confusing- it tried to be enemies to lovers but there was no real reason for the “enemies” other than the MC and love interest being grumpy?? The magic system and world building was confusing and not well explained or laid out. It felt like it took bits and pieces from other popular romantasy series and tried to patch-work quilt them together into something new.

Also, there’s a lot of unnecessary swearing. I’m not usually one to notice or care about profanity, but I don’t think you can go more than a page or two without the F-bomb. It’s distracting at times.

By about 50/55% of the book, the plot was interesting enough that it edged its way off the DNF cliff.
