99 Days

Ohohohoh, this review might be on the longer side for me.
Now to disclaimer - despite what people tag this as - it is NOT a romance . This is a contemporary dealing with complicated relationships, sexism, slut-shaming, cheating, fat-shaming, and other topics. If I have to put it in a specific subgenre, I'd say it's coming-of-age as Molly is trying to find herself and move past her mistakes and hopefully work toward being a better person.
Not that it works out well for her. Patrick complicates things, and honestly is pretty much an ass most of the time. Even in the flashbacks when they were dating, he was guilt-tripping and gaslighty about her maybe wanting to go to a boarding school who sought her out because of how good she was at track. Now maybe he has issues because of his father's death years earlier, but the way he treated her like a possession who had a say in what she could go and do with her life was nonsense. And while I can see why she was with Gabe while her and Patrick were broken up, the reason he was into her it seemed at the end is frustrating. Both guys in this book were assholes and need to get their shit together, and NOT date someone they've known their entire life. Also their sister needs to deal with her internalized misogyny that the girl is the problem in the situation were between Molly and her brothers (which is more frustrating when Julia is a lesbian???).
Molly has her own issues of being kind of a dick for how she acts but with all the shit she goes through and how this three siblings (and others) treat her, being manipulated by Patrick in the ways she was because of what he did in pursuing her while she was dating his brother, I kind of get it. But goodness, she is an absolute doormat for both of these brothers. Which makes her shitty in the decisions made.
I did love the friendships she had, people who didn't make her feel bad constantly outside the situation going on. Tessa and her were such good friends, but that didn't end well but at least they parted ways amicably. I'm glad Molly found her passion enough to be a business major. I'll be picking up 9 Days and 9 Nights to see how it ends and if she's grown as a person while away at college.
