Something I really love about Sally Rooney is that she focuses a lot on the economic status differences between characters and how that divide can affect a relationship, or a friendship. That was a main theme here and in CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS as well.
I had already watched the show for this book, so I knew what to expect. I will say, they did an amazing job adapting it. I do wish I had read the book first though because I like to imagine my own characters. Paul Mescal isn’t a bad guy to imagine though.
I also love the ambiguity of her endings. It’s infuriating and wonderful all at the same time.
Oh and one more thing- I have a hard time believing that high school kids had sex that good, but maybe they are just built different in Ireland
