I found the writing and characters really engaging and devoured this book in a matter of days. However, I found the ending unsatisfying because so many early hints are never satisfactorily developed let alone tied up. The plot line mentioned in the prologue should have been more weighty than it turned out to be. It’s just dropped and we never learn anything about how that early experience shaped Davina. I also felt that the Brendon character’s misdeeds needed to be taken more seriously by the adults and some sign shown that this kid truly needs professional help.
My impression is of a draft published too early that could’ve undergone another deep revision. Loose ends abound, and I’ve generally found this author’s work more tightly plotted.
