The Mayor of Casterbridge by Thomas Hardy
4.0
FIVE YEARS LATER, I FINISHED IT. CLAPS FOR ME.
Pretty stupid that I left this book unfinished for so long, because it wasn't a hard read and I was actually enjoying it, I'm just stubborn. Maybe didn't help that the edition I read was SO riddled with errors it was actually ridiculous. Some I wasn't sure whether they were just Old English or not, but other were just weird. 'She looked up' was instead 'She looked lip' and 'Might' was 'night' and just. HOW. Did they copy and paste a really dodgy online copy for this? Did they not even read it through ONCE before publishing? My mum gave me this edition because it looks like a nice one, because it was her favourite book and she read it when she was the age I was when she gave it to me, but I think they spent more on the leather that binds it more than anything else, even the paper or the actual binding.
Okay, as for the actual book, I really liked it, it's very tragic, and I probably would've shed a tear or two if my mother didn't mention every single time thatHenchard dies at the end .
