Caraval by Stephanie Garber
4.0
adventurous emotional mysterious medium-paced

I've heard so much about Caraval via Bookstagram, so I was excited to finally start it on audio this summer. While I'm not sure it entirely lived up to all of the hype, it was still such an enjoyable read!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern is one of my favorite cozy reads, so Caraval admittedly had some pretty big shoes to fill. While I enjoyed the mystery and game of it all, I often found myself confused and having to think about who was who and what was going on.

There are so many easter eggs and clues hidden throughout the book, I think it would be better done as an eyeball read rather than audio.

I will say, though, that I couldn't help but picture Scarlett and Tella's father as Governor Ratcliffe from Pochahontas, and at times it made it hard to take him seriously.. which tbh, added some levity to his abhorrent treatment of his daughters.
