This Is How You Lose the Time War by Max Gladstone, Amal El-Mohtar
1.25
it's fitting that the characters' names are red and blue considering this book is packed with purple prose.
also hard to get invested in a romance that is
- entirely based on short notes the protags sneak to each other over decades (relative to them)
- between two immortal cyborg time travelers (one of whom lives an entire human lifespan, 60+ years iirc, married to a normie, as part of an undercover operation...how relatable!)
the time war concept with the butterfly effect is neat. i knew going in that this would not be the focus, so my disappointment is not due to failed expectations. it's entirely based on the characters and the prose.
