This book was advertised as a thriller, but that's disingenuous and has lead to disappointed readers (looking at the Storygraph reviews). It's much more about the emotional journey of the mother and daughter and the strengthening of their relationship through extreme hardship. It's about trust and loving people for who they are, not who you want them to be. It's about a dark night of the soul externalised as an Alaskan hurricane.
