I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this one, only that it was the Goodreads book of the year in 2021 and has been sitting on my shelf ever since I got it. I had recently The Woman by the same author circulating social media and decided to go ahead and pick this one up. I was so incredibly surprised by what I ended up reading. 

 

The book left me with so many emotions and made me cry multiple times throughout it. Told from the POV of a mother and daughter during the Great Depression, this tells a beautiful story of bravery, perseverance, grief, hope and longing for something more in life. I’m looking forward to reading more books by the author and working through her backlog.
