The Monseigneur ends up organizing a large operation to smuggle Jews and escaped soldiers out of WWII Italy using Vatican City as a refuge.  Good thing he is a genius, who knows 5 languages or so to help him keep everything straight.  It is mostly about him as the protagonist with the Nazi Hauptman trying to stop the flow of escapees so he doesn't look bad to Himmler.  He develops a "choir" as a cover for their meetings and everyone has their role.
