I don't really know what to think about this one. I was listening to it in a form of an audiobook and that might be the reason why I enjoyed it more than I would and finished it so fast.
Firstly, if you're thinking of starting this story, do yourself a favor and listen to it, the narrator is top tier. They quite literally gave life to otherwise dull characters.
However, when it comes to the protagonists themselves, well ... I didn't feel the connection to them neither did it seem that they themselves had any sort of attachment to each other within the plot.
And I'm so sorry but what kind of psychiatrist/psychologist (I forgot which one) Gwen is? It gave me the impression that she is not capable of conjuring the profile of the killer nor was she able to come to the aid to her clients, whether it was John Abbot or others that we caught a small glimpse of. The entirety of her sessions seemed extremely superficial.
Another thing that gave me the ick was the relationship between Gwen and Robert. I get it, lust and blah blah, but both of them were completely unprofessional and Gwen took every single opportunity to exclaim her sentiments towards him within the narration even if they talked about murders. If anything, she is the one with the problem.
And what was that whole plot about Robert coming to kill her and her not only protecting his secret of murdering John but also still lusting for him?! I understand the attraction but did it have to be to the point of throwing away her sanity, and on top of that for a MAN?
And for all that I would rate it in a way:
2* for the narration, which was truly spectacular
1* for the entertainment the story brought me when being stuck in traffic
