Wow, what a devastating and hopeful book. Feinberg depicts the horror of growing up visibly different in a society that responds to difference with immense violence. Feinberg also writes of the comfort and love within community found in gay bars in Buffalo.
I can't believe it took me so long to finally read this foundational queer text. There's so much in it that is relevant to today, and Feinberg writes of the contradictions and joys and pains of queerness with such honesty.
