Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White
5.0
challenging dark emotional inspiring reflective sad tense medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Character
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: Yes
Flaws of characters a main focus: Complicated

A powerful, blatantly political statement against the rise of neofascist ideology in the US centered around a queer disabled main character. White works wonders in this novel, making non-democratic politics accessible to all ages and highlighting the ways that rural communities are taken advantage of and judged for their most vocal members, at the expense of those just trying to survive. This book is not for the faint of heart but it is 1,000% worth the read.
