Lilith by George MacDonald
2.0

Contrary to other reviews, I think this had an interesting start. Sure it meanders a bit, but the story is fun and you gain a liking for the characters. Sadly, the more metaphoric the story got, the weaker it turned out to be. Certain scenes that felt unimportant seemed to stretch on and on, while scenes pivotal to the plot went by in a flash and could be easily missed. Mr. Raven drones and drones, and while it was fun and even quotable at first, it started to become grating. The book slows to a snail's pace as MacDonald pumps the plot full of spiritual lessons, which weakened and dulled Lilith to the point that I was ready for it to be over. I'm glad I read this, but it was struggle to get through.
