I will read everything written by Nina LaCour and fall in love with every illustration by Kaylani Juanita! I love so many things about this book. Of course there's the sweet storyline/plot and the perfect illustrations to go with it. And on top of that, I love that this is a story of a girl with two moms that doesn't have anything whatever to do with that fact. It isn't a coming-out story. The little girl doesn't get teased or questioned for having two moms. It just is. And it's beautiful and accepting and exactly the way it should be. I also love that the teacher in this story is a Black man, not a white woman. I love that Mama has big beautiful tattoos on both shoulders. I love that one child in the girl's class wears a neck brace. This is exactly the kind of children's book that gives me hope for the future and shows the best of humanity.
