44 Scotland Street by Alexander McCall Smith
5.0

Don't ask me what it is about because I have no answer. There is no satisfactory answer, I'm sure. But it was written as a newspaper serial, so each chapter is constructed in such a way as to reveal something interesting, move a character or subplot forward, and to engage readers all in about (on kindle) seven pages. I think it was supposed to be 30 lines in a newspaper column or something, so it makes for a quick read where something interesting is always happening, but overall, nothing really happens. Except we meet all these interesting characters and get all these genius little Alexander McCall Smith snippets and beautiful little moments. It is like people watching in Scotland, and I will have to read the next one.
