Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

mysterious medium-paced

1.75

The plot was intriguing enough for me to finish but the actual writing was not sharp, not engaging. The prose was dull and details were often missing or wrong (using the wrong character's name after speaking to one; where is Momo's car after Tristán takes it for a getaway with his ex and then takes the bus back home??? What??). This read felt like the author had had a fantastic idea that fizzled out but wrote it anyway due to a commitment. There was no heart in it. A shame. Mexican Gothic was very good.
