Romantasy as a genre on the whole is fraught with substanceless, vapid books that put the story on the back burner. This is not the case. This one has a plot. The characters are complex and have various motivations and make mistakes. I’m actually going to read the series bc I want to see where the plot goes. The romance parts did take me out of the story sometimes bc they were cheesy. And the actual one sex scene was lame as hell. Yawn boring hetero stuff. But overall, a good fantasy book.
