“But Mom stayed with her, right here in her hand, at the end of all things. Mom stayed and so did the stars.”

Wow. I definitely wasn’t expecting to cry during a YA thriller but my god!

After reading A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series I expected good things from Holly Jackson and I throughly enjoyed this book. I thought it started a bit too slow for me, but I loved the way Holly teased the answers slowly through the storyline.

I have never hated a character that’s been written before, but Oliver I hated from the beginning! Something about him, or should I say multiple things, rubbed me up the wrong way and i was happy in the end that he got what he deserved! Maddy I had suspicions about from the beginning and I thought I knew how the storyline would go. By god am I thankful it didn’t go the way I thought it would.

The title of the book only clocked properly in my brain in the final chapters and I spent the whole time hoping it wasn’t Red or Arthur. I was gutted when it came about that Arthur was the reason they were there, however I couldn’t find it in my heart to blame him. To me, Oliver was the true villain in this book, and nothing said will change my mind.

There’s still several questions left unanswered that will rack my brain for a long time after finishing the book. Who was the second Yes vote? Would Maddy be okay after losing two family members/two of the most important people in her life? What happened to Reyna and Simon after the police helped them? Did Red go and meet Arthur?!

A very enticing read and thoroughly exciting (although anxiety-ridden) read. 4.25⭐️
