The Final Act of Mercy Dove by Becky Wright

5.0

NOTE: I was given a copy of the book from the author, and I'm a horrible fangirl of said author but am doing my best to keep my bias out, and the words true. However if you check my rating, y'all already know damn well how I feel about this book.

A master at evoking the time-period ambiences of the gothic worlds she molds and shapes with ease, Becky Wright returns with another masterstroke.

Leaning into the Victorian Erotic Horror that the book is labeled as, she delivers on each portion with such flare that I can't help but be impressed despite already knowing just how magnificent her writing always is.

Though a short novella, she easily crafts characters who immediately bond themselves to the reader as well as each other, creating a dynamic that is equal parts lustful and horrifying. The story dances around the expectations of the readers, guiding them with teasing hands all the way to the climax.

The prose is beautiful even in the face of all that is not, creating a haunting effect on the reader. Honestly I can't get over her prose. Probably one of the best writers to exist, she always brings a flare to her writing, always slips in turns of phrases that leave me with chills and in awe.

Honestly I don't know what more I can say that won't spoil the book, and that won't just be gushing. Safe to say, I loved it, and will be buying it once it's out and rereading it.
