the vibes are: these deadly games x that’s so raven 🤌🏼

I’m really not kidding on these vibes, people.

I flew through this one due to the quick paced storyline and the way the author flipped back and forth between the dual POV of hayden and cassie so quickly. I loved how easy it was to follow (as most YA novels are), and how stressed I was getting waiting for the main characters to figure this shizz out.

the concept of the entire thing was quite well done, but I wish that the characters were fleshed out a bit more. yes, hayden and cassie were so similar in the way that they had their magical realistic “visions” that I wanted more of their internal connection - I wanted more about hayden’s mom, and cassie’s mom, and all of these people who suddenly have powers in this town?

instead, it felt more like an afterthought or a set up to a sequel that I probably won’t read.

the reasoning behind the thriller aspects of the plot, additionally, weren’t the strongest. I felt like the author decided to pick the most out of left field characters to be the bad guys, and then half-assed the reasoning behind why they did what they did.

to be perfectly honest, I still don’t know why.

thank you to netgalley and macmillan for the advanced copy in exchange for an honest review. this one is out april 12th!
