Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

I was so hyped for this book, I worried I was making it too big in my mind and would undoubtedly be disappointed if it was anything short of spectacular. I was not in any way, shape or form let down. Within the first 5 minutes of the audiobook (which I highly recommend - the actor's performances add another level of amazingness to the story) I was in love. The characters are all so achingly realistic, flawed and fun and relatable to the point where I felt like I was listening to a documentary about something that actually happened in the 1970s.

What I really liked about the main characters of the band was that no one felt too wholesome and good if that makes sense? Every single one had their flaws, their egos, their annoying personality traits that made them feel like they were someone you personally know that, while they're super cool and talented, they're kind of annoying and full of it. Everyone in that band suffered from their own baggage, but it was the way they interacted and where they all end up after the band splits that also impressed me. It's an ending that's bittersweet but realistic.

The ultimate catalysts for the band's failure was not a direction I would've guessed, and I admit I missed the mark quite a bit regarding what I thought would happen with these guys. The reveal towards the end of the interviewer actually being a band mate's daughter was fantastic. While I really loved the book, I feel like, in a strange way, there might have been a little more Taylor Jenkins Reid could've done with it - almost like she played the ending a tad bit safe? But regardless, I want everyone and their mother to read this book (with how much I see it popping up on Instagram these days, I think they are already).
