I have wanted to read this book for over 20 years since hearing about it at uni. I liked the absurdity and subtle humour. I did feel like I missed some key context before I realised it wasn’t that I’d missed it.. it just wasn’t there.

All the female characters felt rather empty and homogeneous which spoiled it for me. I did not buy the relationships at all. I found it amusing that things like phones and tvs did not seem to have evolved from the 60s in this future, but there were flying cars and realistic androids.

Overall, the premise was strong and surprisingly relevant today... I would read it again.
