Virtually Yours by Jeremy Holt
5.0
Why is everyone sleeping on this? Why have I never heard of this before??
It was such a great surprise and a rare find, I enjoyed this massively.
I think there was so much that was good in this that I need to make a list
- Representation was insane, I think there was no white character and it was so refreshing and interesting to see.
- Eva was so great, I could identify with her as a career-focused woman that doesn't want a relationship (even though her career was making me so anxious, all with the having to decide what to write about, then writing about it ugh I am really not made to be a journalist).
- The art was so pretty, it is EXACTLY the style I like, clear and defined lines and beautiful rich colours.
- Max was so cute and I relate to him too.
- I liked that there is portrayal of an abusive relationship where the victim is a man and the perpetrators is a woman. While the great majority of the time it is the opposite, it is still important to show that men can suffer of this too.
- The concept of Virtually Yours was so interesting! I wanted to know more, and I kind of want to try the app out ahah
------ SPOILERS AHEAD -------
The relationship between Eva and Max was great and I loved to see it grow. I usually don't like that the couple seems to break because of a misunderstanding, but here it was really well justified and made sense with Max's past and personality that he would just run away when he discovers Eva's column. I just wanted maybe 10 more pages at the end! Like, how does it end? I get that they apologise and forgive each other, but are they getting together? Are they staying as friends only? I wanted to know!!! I was hoping for a proper kiss and you know, being-boyfriend-and-girlfriend thing but it just...ended. I needed more!
But still, it was great and I am so glad I read this
