The Sea Witch by Rebecca F. Kenney
5.0

He is curious about all things far away and forbidden. He is forever learning, forever exploring. Determined, like me. Proud, like me. Full of heart and humor that he keeps hidden away. I love him, and I don't even know his name.

I'm honestly starting to think Rebecca has ruined me. I'll never love any romance novels ever again the way I love hers. Sea Witch is a beautiful Little Mermaid retelling with a gender bent twist. The Sea Witch is basically the boogieman from under the ocean, or so Averil and all her Father's people have been lead to believe. After saving a man from a ship wreck Averil has a run in with the witch in which she makes a deal with him. He gives her legs but she must make this man, a prince, fall in love with her within 3 days time. After they are engaged she must do the witch a favor and he will return her voice.

Averil quickly learns that her prince nor her witch are what they seem.

I loved this one so much because I'm a huge sucker for the villains getting their happy ending. The Sea Witch's back story and character build up is so perfectly done I really wouldn't change a single thing about him. Averil is also very well done and a lot happens and her character quickly adapts and learns throughout the entire story. I really enjoyed reading the duel perspectives and being able to see the struggles both Averil and The Witch faced.

The spice was on point
The characters were written wonderfully
And the world they lived was laid out in a way that wasn't overwhelming and easy to picture

This one will definitely be a reread for me over and over again.
