There are some heavy topics in this book: suicidal ideation, bullying, school shooting. It's a story about learning who you are and not following blindly. Valerie didn't realize her boyfriend was serious about following through when they created a hate list and came up with ways to die. But she was very wrong. In the aftermath of the shooting, Valerie has to decide how responsible she really is and that requires a lot of soul searching. This can be a lesson to teenagers in how to reflect and realize actions have consequences.
