Beartown by Fredrik Backman
4.5
I cannot convey with words the fantastic intensity of this story. At first, I thought people were overselling this story, honestly. It was nice, I guess, but not as entertaining as I thought. Then the story took off, and I was unsurprisingly hooked.
As a huge hockey fan, this book spoke to my heart and the passion people can have for this sport. Seeing the various ways and levels people were driven by it was truly fascinating!
No spoilers here, but I wanted to highlight that I was particularly impressed by the writing style of the ending. The narration and tone were spot on.
Overall, I recommend this book for sure. I also suggest going in pretty blind and just letting the beginning play out.
