Devil May Care by Angel Lawson, Samantha Rue

This started out pretty strong for me. Enemies to lovers book always have such explosive chemistry. I really liked the book for the most part but it turned into something a lot angstier than I was hoping for.

I think it started to go downhill for me around 60ish%. Hamilton is a really pretentious entitled jerk in the beginning. Then they started kissing and doing other stuff in the midst of their typical arguments. That was great. I did start to feel a little frustrated with how they both were immediately ‘this never happened’. That back and forth built a lot of hot tension but eventually I was ready for them to actually figure out how to make their situation work out for them long before they got there.

Then when they finally did realize they wanted to figure it out I hated that they both tried to keep it a secret. I want my H to scream to the world that his h belongs to him. It’s not that I don’t understand their reasoning but I would have felt better about it if he fought for her instead of being a coward.

The forbidden relationship element, the hiding and secrecy and family drama was just a big pile of angst. We also have a breakup, separation and reconciliation proceeded by a not terrible but still inadequate grovel. I hate that plot device and I hate that authors hardly ever give a good grovel. It was a relatively short separation but miserable all the same.
