All the Light We Cannot See
by Anthony Doerr
This didn't quite live up to my expectations. I found myself thinking back to my experience reading "The Goldfinch" -- beautifully written (award-winning literature), interesting characters, slow-moving plot -- and just long, long, long. This time, this was a library book and after three weeks I still had 150+ pages left to read and the late fines were piling up, so this was not exactly a page-turner for me. Perhaps if I had set aside more frequent large chunks of time to really delve into the detailed prose, I would have lost myself in the time period, and my experience would have been different. Instead, I picked this book up a bit here and there in the midst of my regular life, and it was a bit tough to stick with it. I was interested in the history and the viewpoints of the two main characters, but I can't say I give this one a high recommendation.
