Lousy Rotten Stinkin' Grapes by Margie Palatini
5.0
Age: 1st - 3rd grade
Sly. Clever. Smart. Fox sees a plump branch of grapes resting high above his head. He concocts several ludicrous equations with his forest friends to boost, oomph, scooch, and swing his way to victory. If only he'd open his ears, he would realize that the other animals have their own special talents.
This take on the Aesop's fable "The Fox and the Grapes" is accompanied with realistic watercolors of these woodland creatures. The bullying efforts of fox are continually unsuccessful, providing laughter every time he falls. The dialogue is rich with characterization which would provide an excellent read-aloud choice.
