Black Sun
by Rebecca Roanhorse
This was absolutely enthralling from start to finish. The pacing was perfect; never dragging, never rushed, and the worldbuilding pulled me in immediately with its richness and originality. The story itself was layered and dynamic, weaving together politics, prophecy, and power in a way that kept me hooked the entire time.
What really stood out to me, though, were the characters. Each one was so unique and complex, with their own flaws, motivations, and arcs that made them feel real and compelling. I especially appreciated the thoughtful inclusion of queer characters, including those who used neopronouns, which felt both natural and important to the world Rebecca Roanhorse created. The representation added depth and authenticity rather than ever feeling forced.
The ending left me excited for what’s to come, setting the stage for the sequel while still feeling like a complete and satisfying story on its own.
Overall, this was an incredible reading experience; bold, imaginative, and emotionally resonant. Without question, it’s worthy of the Hugo Award it recently received. A solid 5-star read that I’d recommend to anyone looking for fantasy that pushes boundaries while delivering an unforgettable story.
