My first novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. Cousin Phillis is an unusual Victorian story as it is from a young male's POV and doesn't focus on an obvious romance.
Paul is a 19 year old out in the world for the first time and is asked to visit his distant cousins. He does and forms a family relationship with them. After introducing his boss to the family, relationships change and the story explores the trials and experiences of the two young characters, Paul and his cousin Phillis.
The book has some great character studies. It is a short read around 120 pages so it is easy to read in one sitting. Really enjoyed this book.
