Silent Sue, aka Charlotte Davis aka Charlie is in pieces. Found after an attempt she is placed in a mental health ward. Charlie’s life has been falling apart for a while since childhood. She’s been using broken glass to help her survive. It helps her stop thinking about everything that’s happened before her.

This is a fictional story of survival. And it’s brutal. And it’s hard. And it’s heavy. And it’s beautifully realistically done. Glasgow has made herself one of my new favourite authors! Don’t do what I did however and assume as a YA it’ll be on the lighter side of heavy. This book holds back no punches and reminds me in that way of the heaviness of A Little Life just with a different ending and only a snapshot of a life, not her whole life. So beware your mental health state before entering into this one if you’re thinking about it!
