BoyMom: Reimagining Boyhood in the Age of Impossible Masculinity by Ruth Whippman

medium-paced

4.0

I found the first half of this book to be really insightful and thought provoking, and helped shed light on the deep set narratives that hold young boys back from fully expressing themselves emotionally in today’s society. In particular, the commentary on beliefs commonly held on the left that help perpetuate toxic masculinity was fascinating. The second half was an absolute horror show about the dangers of online gaming, incels and rape culture. Also important to think about but aaahhhhhhh. Glad I read it and would recommend to parents of boys, but just brace yourself for the second half lol.
