The Grim Company by Luke Scull

2.0

Comparisons with Joe Abercrombie are inevitable because this reads like an almost direct, second-rate, copycat. All the main characters (even down to their traits and speech mannerisms) and the plot are too similar to be comfortable (or coincidental?). Maybe it wouldn't have been so glaringly obvious if I hadn't come straight to this from reading Abercrombie? The only real difference was in the greater use of magic in GC, but I didn't find it very convincing or well thought-out. I admit I only finished the book because I'm obstinate like that.
