Perfect Timing: How Isaac Murphy Became One of the World's Greatest Jockeys by Patsi B. Trollinger, Jerome Lagarrigue

5.0

The illustrations in this book are gorgeous. Soft and hazy, they look like pastel drawings, and they evoke a feeling of nostalgia or sentimentality for a man who was a truly incredible jockey. The book tells the story of Isaac's childhood, how he was first hired as a jockey, and how he trained and rose to success, learning to run his horse at the perfect pace, with perfect timing.
There is a lot of information in this book, and a lot of text on each page. For that reason, it would probably be most enjoyed by grades 3-5. It would be a great book for students who like horses or horse races, and would also be a fantastic book to supplement studying Kentucky history, particularly the history of horse racing.
