Came into the book with a lot of preconceived notions but realized the source material was much different. Reading the book through a more feminist lens was much more “enjoyable ” for me probably because I could relate to it more. It has a very “look away from the explosion” type of writing style. Where many major plot points and acts of horror either happen off page or are almost glossed over.  It makes sense that it’s how Victor would relate the story but as a reader I found myself missing the dirty details. There was also an odd pattern of miserable and unending despair and then Victor would get a little happier and then more despair. Much page space was dedicated to what emotions Victor was dealing with and not necessarily what was going on around him.
