Listen, I'm not entirely sure how to rate this one because on one hand its a silly goofy campy delight...and on the other, its a Red Tower book and lacks a proper edit.
Questions I had while reading this:
Questions I had while reading this:
- Why is she wearing stiletto boots?
- No really, how is she hiking through the forest with these shoes?!
- That's the big bad? HUH?
- *cackles* A month?!
- Huh??
- Wait, where are they?
- Wait, when did they get here?
- Was I supposed to laugh during the big reveal?
- Seriously, what is up with the stilettos?!
This is a book to read for the vibes. And the humor—which you will either love or hate. I was already a fan of Hannah's skits, so I knew it was for me. YMMV. It doesn't have anything particularly profound to say about the human condition and it knows that. It's very much here for give you a good, albeit sometimes confusing, time.
The biggest thing that surprised me (besides Evie's choice of footwear) was how much I related to Evie. She read to me as autistic and I loved her all the more for it. Oh and its a VERRRRRRY slow burn, which honestly is refreshing AF and something I adore.
Anyway, I'm diving right into book 2 and will be reading—but not buying—book 3 when it releases later this year. If you need something that you don't have to think too hard about, give this one a try.
