The Incendiaries by R.O. Kwon
2.0

This book did have its moments of unique observations and beauty, however little I liked the characters. The story felt as juvenile as its co-eds. The inner turmoil of the narrative over-relied on cliché college kid woes (which made me cringe at times), while Phoebe’s transformation into cult acolyte felt too sudden and underdeveloped. The staccato prose was overly stylized; it was so choppy I couldn’t read for extended periods of time because it felt like being jerked around in a turbulent bus ride. I wouldn’t be surprised if Kwon averaged 7 words a sentence.
