Another successful epic in one of my favorite series. A few themes that were (thankfully) left out of the television adaptation. There is an antisemitic trope that Gabaldon included which easily could have been omitted. Had she or an editor researched the provenance or even the discourse surrounding such tropes, it probably wouldn't have been included. I can't say much more without spoilers.

There are themes surrounding the slave trade, although historically accurate, were unreasonably graphic as compared to other sensitive topics. Combined with the repeated use of white-savior heroism, these depictions were invasive and heavy-handed.

Nonetheless, the writing is phenomenal. There is something for everyone--romance, adventure, drama, and humor. The plot is captivating, the characters are complex, and the imagery is rich and creative.
