A Dark and Hollow Star by Ashley Shuttleworth

5.0

OH. MY. GOD.

I'm gonna keep this review spoiler free because the book isn't out for three or four more days but:

A dark and hollow star might singlehandedly replace every single other fantasy book I used to call my favorite.

Ashley Shuttleworth is a an author with beautiful writing that caught me from the opening Sentence. They built this beautiful story and hooked you in with romance, suspense, tiny little secrets and Incredible worldbuilding. By the time I closed this book I felt like I KNEW that world, like I lived in it. And I wish I did.
Next time I visit Toronto and I get to see the Aquarium again (it's my favorite place) it's going to be a completely different experience because of this book. And that speaks volumes.

Now, I want to talk characters. This book has such relatable and fun characters who I was rooting for from their introduction to the final sentence. They had characters that were so unapologetically themselves, and even the villians were given the depth they needed in order to be seen as something other then a static character. Another thing that stood out to me was how much representation this book had. The two that meant the world to me was getting to see a lesbian without it being her whole plot, and also getting to see Genderqueer characters just... There. It wasn't a huge deal, nobody questioned it. It was perfect. Heck we even got neopronouns!!

My favorite aspects of this book had to be the way we slowly watch the povs bleed together into one beautiful plot.

I'm placing my bets now, this book will be replacing novels like Shadowhunters, Acotar and the Grishaverse as the most popular and talked about YA novel in the Media. Just you wait.

Now, y'all should read it so I can fangirl!
