Triptych by Karin Slaughter
4.0
dark emotional mysterious tense
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Yes
Loveable characters: Complicated

I read my first Karin Slaughter book several years ago, a standalone called Pretty Girls, and thought I’d try this series since I loved her writing. She did not disappoint this time around, either!

In this one, there are third-person povs of a local detective, an ex-con, and Georgia Bureau of Investigation Agent Will Trent. Each character is vibrant, layered, and realistic. Slaughter’s writing is so descriptive that it feels like you’re there with them in their world.

The case itself was intriguing. It was wild when I figured out how various dots connected and who was involved!

As in Pretty Girls (as well as all her books, I hear), the subject matter is disturbing. Slaughter does not spare any detail, so keep that in mind if you want to try this series.

This first book sets the stage for how Will Trent will handle darker cases in the future as well as how he will navigate his disability/past trauma on the job. I’m excited to learn more about this peculiar guy in future installments!
