I loved the first half of this book. I liked how Iris and Roman were separated and found each other through their typewriters and words again but I struggled in the second half. The magic still felt unclear and Dacre’s power even less so. He seemed far too easy to deceive in many cases, and it seemed too implausible for Roman to continue to find ways to see Iris. I also felt disappointed in Roman’s behavior, which felt heroic and bold in the first book and less so in the second. While I can understand interpreting some of these behaviors and decisions more kindly, I was still disappointed in the narrative around it. I liked so many of the side characters but felt like we had too many to do any of their stories justice. I did enjoy the book, it did make me cry, and I loved the glimpse of their life together at the end but Divine Rivals was superior of the 2 to me.
