This story has been changed to trying to show the horror of good and evil in someone, warring, and the horror of being trapped in your own body, forced to watch it take part in your dark desires you kept hidden for so long. This is fine but it misses the point of the original story and removes a huge feature.
This story is about drug addiction and you’d never know from the modern depictions. It is an excellent metaphor for watching someone fall prey to addiction, while also showing how it negatively impacts Jekyll as well. It drags to me at some points but it fulfills its purpose and I like it.
